I was uncertain what to expect here. When I arrived I didn't see any lights. But we went to the door and the windows were darkly tinted. The prices are average. .. 7 dollars and up. The menu is large. But it is a lot of tacos quesadilla and fajita. They do have tortas which are large and inexpensive. We ordered a fajita and a torta and one soft drink. The price was 30 dollars but the table was covered with food and there were 2 take home boxes. The food was better than taco bell. We enjoyed our visit and when I visit the area again would be fine returning.

Can't go wrong with freaky fast food and $2 margaritas. My go-to is the fajita and my only complaint about it is that they only give 3 tortillas to start, so I always have a huge take home of all the fillings left behind! I would probably eat here every day if I could - it's that good! A great spot to grab a cheap drink and quick, filling meal. And the cheap margs are still strong regardless of price.

Ummm. Bland. Let's just say this restaurant to me isn't worth all the hype it's getting. Maybe it was the lunch, maybe I didn't get a regular menu item, whatever the case is that I didn't really enjoy as much I was expecting. I ordered the lunch all you can eat taco special. Out of the chicken or beef, I put my chances on beef which to me was sort of a disappointment. The beef didn't have any flavor, even with the cheese and lettuce that came with it didn't add that much flavor. Sure, if it's the price you're looking at I guess that's one way to look at where it was cheap. For about $8 bucks for all you can eat tacos and whatnot I don't think that's not bad. But, for $8 you could get something jucier, like a burger. I honestly didn't think bland tacos and mexican food was on my palate. I'm pretty sure the dinner menu would be better and that gives me a reason to come back and try it out. Until then, 3 stars will have to do for lunch.

Best Mexican food in the area. It may be a bit of a drive, but well worth it. I have never had any item from the menu I didn't like.

Very fast excellent food. They have the best cheese sauce in town, and best prices for mexican food. The very cheapest prices for great food. Margaritas could be stronger for some, but you can't complain about anything else.

My husband Parker J (also a reviewer of this restaurant) is going to be so disappointed in me, but I am just not impressed with El Cantaritos. I recently moved to Oak Ridge, TN from Oregon, so I haven't experienced a lot of TN Mexican restaurants, but I've been to a ton in Oregon (it's my favorite kind of food,) and El Cantaritos just doesn't have great food. They do have large portions for a low price though, so if you're on a budget, it may be the place you're looking for. Atmosphere is good, everything is expect from a Mexican restaurant, and service is good.

Best place in town to eat. Cheap, meals are big, and if it's not prime time food comes out fast. Margaritas are awesome and they run a special every day on them for $1.99. My girls and I Numero uno mom's night out destination.

Been going here for years, ever since high school. Everyone of my friends always loved El Cantaritos, and it was a popular hangout then and still looks to be that way. The prices have remained low and the food has remained great for years. Ever since I moved away a few years ago, Cantaritos is one of my most desired destinations when I come back. Every visit to the Ridge always brings me to three things: big ed's, chick fil a (none in Oregon) and el cantaritos. it reminds me of good times with friends back in the good ole days of high school. my friend has ordered the same item - el pollo cantarito - almost every time i've been there. now, that of course won't be true for everyone, but the food will still be good. it's at least a 4 stars without the sappy silly memory stuff. the sodas come in huge cups. the menu is huge. you can get a huge plate, or you can go with the speedy gonzales on the lunch menu and have some yummy grub served up real fast. wrote this review because I can't wait to visit again at the end of may for lil bro's gradyation

Expanding into the space next door has created more of sense of quet and privacy, making El Cantarito a more inviting place to spend time. On the other hand, there's now less opportunity to watch the hustle and bustle of the kitchen, which was one of those things that made the place feel so real. They've knocked out part of a wall, made their original space into the bar, and moved the dining room into the space that used to be next door. The interior walls are now attractively finished in fake stucco painted in coordinating colors (all of the Mexican places in this area seem to have hired the same decorator) and they have nice new furnishings. Perhaps to ensure that customers don't mistakenly think this newness indicates a corporate chain restaurant, they've hung some very schlocky paintings and tacky beer ads on some of those nice walls, and there are several TVs around the place that seem to be tuned to Spanish-language channels all of the time. El Cantarito still greets customers with excellent fresh tortilla chips and great salsa, and they serve a good margarita. Like the restaurant space, the menu has gotten bigger, which can be a dangerous thing for a restaurant to do, but food we sampled was both fresh and tasty -- like before. The beans that came with my burrito were slightly crispy on the edge, though, leading me to think that somebody left the plate on the warming counter a little longer than they should have. All in all, El Cantarito still wins my vote as a good place to gather with family or friends, enjoy good Mexican food, drink (responsibly, of course) -- and all without spending much money. But if you want to watch the hustle-bustle of the kitchen, you probably need to sit in the bar.

Hot, fresh Mexican food. This was my second visit. I had the chile relleno that came with a side of beans, a taco, and a guacamole salad. It was served quickly even though it was the height of the lunch hour and it was piping hot (temperature-wise). Not too spicy but not wimpy either. Very reasonable prices. Not fancy, just the basics very well done.

Scenario: On business travel in Oak Ridge looking for anything well-rated on Yelp. I find this, with only 1 rating, but it's also very close to the hotel and NOT a buffet. Mind you, I come from the California central valley, so I'm a little hesitant about Mexican food in Tennessee. Product: O_O It's like whoa. I order the variety platter of flautas, a tamale (my fave), and nacho sample. Now, this is for under $10 AND in the appetizer section, so I figured it was enough for 1 person. Wrong... it was enough for 2 or 3! Soooooo much food I had leftovers. The tamale came in a enchilada sauce with shredded beef (in the sauce). Unique and quite tasty. The chicken flauta was amazing with some kind of smoky, mild pepper flavor. Next time I ordering more of them. The nacho platter had all the toppings you could imagine (sour cream, salsa, cheese, guac, jalapenos...) and was big enough for a meal in itself. Bottom line, I was very impressed by the flavor, price, and authenticity. Service: Yes, most of the employees speak very little English. If you want good Mexican food, that's a GOOD thing:) The waiter who packed up my to-go order was attentive and curteous and responded quickly to my request for additional utensils and napkins. Atmosphere: It feels like a tex-mex restaurant with booths at the walls, plain wooden tables in the middle, and a big-screen blaring Spanish soccer. Pretty much felt like it should for a cheap, delicious non-chain mexican restaurant. Uniquity: The food, folks, and feel reminded me of home.

Food was great. Service was slow and they left out some items on the plates but taste was wonderful

We got to El Cantarito in a split group but we ordered together. They brought our food out one person at a time. After 30 minutes the last person still did not have his food, he had to ask for it again. The rest of us were ready to leave. Another member of our group got the chili relleno and said it was tasteless.

A-OK is the word. By no means is this a place I would seek out but would give it a shot if in Oak Ridge looking for a Mexican meal with big portions and a cheap price. I had a tamale, taco, burrito, enchilada, rice and beans all were ok, nothing special, nothing I would order again if I came back in. While it may be "authentic", you are not going to find traditional meals on the menu like, lengua, tripe, pastor etc. Margaritas original meh?, server could not tell us what a green one was (they have a variety of flavored tequila drinks, would not call them margaritas) but we think it had apple pucker in it, yay great for an under age drinker. We were so turned off by the drinks we went to Ruby Tuesday around the corner to finish off the night. Like I said, nothing memorable nothing special, big portions, reminds me of Pelanchos in Knox. However my comps to this are Soccer Taco, Girasol and La Huasteca, the later two are fairly authentic and one of the menus are only in Spanish.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
